Naogaon: A Hindu man drowned after jumping into a canal while fleeing a mob in Mahadebpur in Bangladesh's Naogaon. The man was being chased by the locals on the suspicion of theft. As per reports, the man has been identified as Mithun Sarkar (25). Police have recovered his body from the canal.

This comes amid a string of recent deaths from the Hindu minority community in the neigbouring country who have been allegedly facing the wrath of mob violence ever since Sheikh Hasina's ouster.
A total of seven cases of fatal attack on members of the community have come to light in just 18 days, including the latest one, amid the unrest in Bangladesh as the nation heads into national election.
Earlier on Monday, a Hindu man identified as Mani Chakraborty, was killed at Charsindur Bazar in Narsingdi district of Bangladesh. Chakraborty was a grocery shop owner who was attacked by unidentified assailants, while he was at the market.
Chakraborty was known to be a quiet and well-known businessman with no known disputes. Following the incident, tensions simmered the local areas in the district as many felt unsafe carrying out daily activities.
Earlier, another Hindu man 45-year-old Rana Pratap was shot dead in Bangaldesh on Monday. Reports indicate that some miscreants opened fire on the Hindu youth when he was at Kapalia Bazar in Union No. 17 of Monirampur upazila, Jessore. Pratap collapsed at the spot and later succumbed to the bullet injuries.

On Saturday, a Hindu woman in Jhenaidah district was raped by two men. The woman was reportedly tied up to a tree and her hair was trimmed off. The men recorded the incident the episode was shared widely on social media.
On January 3, Khokon Chandra Das, who ran a medicine and mobile banking business in his village, was lynched and set on fire by a mob. Though Das managed to jump into a pond, the flames had almost engulfed his head and face, and he subsequently died.
On December 29, 2025, Bajendra Biswas (40), another Hindu man, was shot dead in Mymensingh by his colleague. He was working at a garment factory in Bhaluka when the incident took place. Biswas was a member of Ansar Bahini, a paramilitary force under Bangladesh's Ministry of Home Affairs.
Earlier On December 24, 2025, Amrit Mondal (29), was lynched over alleged extortion in Rajbari. Prior to this, on December 18, 2025, Dipu Chandra Das, 29, was lynched and his body was set on fire, in Mymensingh. This incident was widely reported and it caught the world's attention.
India has expressed concern about these incidents of mob violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had recently said that according to independent sources, over 2,900 incidents of violence have been reported against minorities, during the tenure of the interim government.
